What compound for sterling silver cast parts?

Postby Allison » Tue Oct 13, 2009 8:21 pm

Hi
We own a small jewellery manufacturing business. Recently, I have bought a Raytech vibratory tumbler (bowl type)
We have been using it just with distilled water but without any great results. Can anyone recommend the right cutting compound for de-burring cast units for jewellery mainly sterling silver?
We also have a variety of pyramid plastic media and I would like to know how this differs and what compound would be good to use with this too?

Cheers

Allison

It's important to use a proper, general purpose, vibratory tumbling compound to provide cleanliness and lubrication in the process. The compound should also enhance the break-down of the media to give consistent batch-to-batch results.

Ceramic media is generally more aggressive than plastic media and provides more cutting action and a 'rougher' surface finish.
