Removing rust (left side) from a cast steel part can be accomplished quickly and successfully with an aggressive blasting process. This part was blasted (right side) with 36 Mesh Silicon Carbide Grit in a blast cabinet to remove the rust/oxidation and prepare the part for a thick epoxy coating.
This media was chosen because the hardness of the Silicon Carbide Grit and the larger grit size resulted in a quick strip rate. The blasting was done in an enclosed blasting cabinet so that the media can be re-blasted up to 10 or more times.
