The Benefits of CNC Deburring
A person with a do-it-yourself mentality is often reluctant to give it up, but there is no reason people should still be deburring by hand. With so many options for automatic deburring machines, you can maximize profit by saving time and materials.
Deburring by Hand vs. Deburring with Specialized Tools
The deburring process removes sharp edges and burrs from a part to make it safer, more appealing, and aesthetically pleasing. Parts are taken off the milling machine and are typically deburred by hand. Some parts can take over an hour, which can be reduced to minutes by deburring the part while it’s still in the machine. This results in a high-quality product that can be finished in a fraction of the time. Specialized deburring tools will make hand deburring a thing of the past.
Tools that are used for deburring by hand often have a sharp blade shaped like a hook on the end of it, which is used to scrape and slice off the burrs along the edge of the part. Though these tools are easy to use, they are much less precise and efficient than CNC deburring tools that are held to higher tolerances than traditional tools. While cylindrical hand tools typically have a diameter tolerance of around +/-.008, a CNC deburring end mill has a diameter tolerance of +/- .0005.
This design eliminates location uses, unlike traditional deburring tools. Hand deburring tools have loose tolerances, but CNC deburring tools can be programmed like a traditional mill. Hand tools most likely have a single blade, but CNC tools double cut patterns and have a high number of flutes. Containing both right and left hand teeth, this results in an overall improved finish.
Increase Profits by Reducing Costs
Many small businesses have pulled employees off other jobs to help with deburring. This can be costly and hinder production. This makes labor cost higher while decreasing production rates. You won’t have to worry about this anymore with automated or semi-automated deburring. Parts can be completed in one machine that increases feeds and speeds. Putting an end to deburring by hand will make finishing more efficient.
